The premier league is one of the most watched professional sports leagues in the World. Every club has a diverse squad with players from different backgrounds and nationalities.
The number of muslim players who play in the Premier League have increased over the years, and many of the muslim players have been proudly displaying their faith in praying before the start of a game and performing sujood after celebrating a goal or a win. Here’s a list of muslim players that will be playing in the Premier League in the 2017/2018 Season.
Shkodran Mustafi is a defender who plays for Arsenal and the German national team. He was born in Germany and comes from an Albanian family. Shkodran joined Arsenal in 2016 and won the World Cup with Germany in 2014.
Mesut Özil is a German midfielder of Turkish descent. He joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013 for €50 million and at the time was the most expensive German footballer of all-time, Özil has also won the World Cup with Germany in 2014.
He recites the Quran beofre games and has also stated: “I always do that before I go out [on the pitch]. I pray and my teammates know that they cannot talk to me during this brief period.”
Mohamed Naser Elsayed Elneny
Also known as Mohamed Elneny, is an Egyptian born midfielder and joined Arsenal in 2016. He scored his first goal for Arsenal in a Champions League game against Barcelona, where Arsenal lost.
Granit Xhaka is a midfielder who was born in Basel, Switzerland to Kosovo Albanian parents. He signed for Arsenal in 2016 and has an older brother Taulant Xhaka, who plays for Basel and the Albanian national team.
Ismaël Bennacer is a midfielder who was born in France and joined Arsenal in 2015. Ismaël is of Algerian and Morrocan descent, and also plays for the Algeria national team.
Sead Kolasinac is a defender who was born in Germany and is of Bosnian descent. He plays for Arsenal and is also part of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. He signed for Arsenal in 2017 and scored in his debut against Chelsea in the Community Shield.
Asmir Begovic is a goalkeepr who plays for Bournemouth and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. Asmir previously played for Stoke City and Chelsea before joining Bourenmouth in 2017.

N’Golo Kanté is a French midfielder who was born to Malian parents. He joined Chelsea in 2016 and won the Premier League after winning the same league with Leicester in the previous season, he also plays for the French national team.

Idrissa Gueye is a defensive midfielder who signed for Everton in 2016 and also plays for the Senegalese national team.
Over the 2016 calendar year he made the highest number of successful tackles and interceptions per game across Europe’s top five leagues. He also became the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to win 100 tackles in the 2016–17 season.
Muhamed Bešić signed for Everton in 2014, He is a defensive midfielder and also plays for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. Muhamed was born in Berlin, Germany to paretns from and Herzegovina.
El Hadji Baye Oumar Niasse
Also known as Oumar Niasse, he was born in Senegal and is a striker signed to Everton. He also plays for the Senegal national team. He is currently out on loan to Hull City who were relegated from the Premier League last season.
Riyad Karim Mahrez
Riyad Mahrez is a midfielder who currently plays for Leicester City and the Algeria national team. He helped his team, Leicester City win the Premier League in 2015, and won the PFA Players’ Player of the Year in the same year.
Ahmed Musa is a striker who signed for Leicester City in 2016. He was born in Niergia and plays for the national team. In 2014, Ahmed became the first Nigerian to score more than once in a FIFA World Cup match whilst playing Argentina.
Islam Slimani is a striker who plays for Leicester City and the Algerian national team. He joined Leicester City in 2016 and helped his country reach the knockout stages for the first time in history at the 2014 World Cup.
Emre Can is a midfielder who currently plays for Liverpool and the Germany national team. Emre’s parents are Turkish and he signed for Liverpool in 2015 and won the FIFA Confederations Cup with his national team in 2017.
Mamadou Sakho is a defender who currently plays for Liverpool and the France national team. Mamadou was born in Paris to Senegalese parents.
Sadio Mané is a striker from Senegal who signed for Liverpool from Southampton in 2016. He also plays for the Senegal national team.
Mohamed Salah is an Egyptian midfielder who plays for Liverpool and his national team. After a brief stint with Chelsea, Mohamed Salah went on a season-long loan to Roma, and made a permanent move to the club in the following season. He move to Liverpool was a club record and became the club’s first ever Egyptian player.
Gnegneri Yaya Touré
Also known as Yaya Touré is an midfielder who plays for Manchester City. Yaya was born in the Ivory Coast and also plays for his national team. Yaya made his faith public on TV when he once turned down the traditional Man-of-the-Match champagne after a league game against Newcastle United.
Yaya has an older brother, Kolo, who plays for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
Ilkay Gündogan is a midfielder who plays for Manchester City and the German National Team. Ilkay has Turkish parents and signed for Manchester City in 2016.
Paul Labile Pogba
Paul Pogba is a midfielder who plays for Manchester United and the France National Team. He was born to Guinean parents and also has two brothers, both of them play profesional football.
Paul says he reverted to Islam after he was introduced to it by by his mother.
Paul started playing professiona football for Manchester United, where he went through the ranks in the youth squad and earned his place in the first team. He was then sold to Juventus where he grew as a world-class player. Manchester United re-signed him in 2016 for a world record fee.
Marouane Fellaini is a midfielder who plays for Manchester United and the Belgian national team. Marouane was born in Belgium to Morrocan parents and joined Manchester United from Everton in 2013. Marouane is the first muslim player to captain Manchester United.
Mohamed Diamé is a midfielder for Newcastle United. He is also made 31 appearances for the Senegal national team, before retiring from internatinoal duty in 2017.
Sofiane Boufal is a midfielder who plays for Southampton and the Morroco national team. He was born in France and signed for Southampton in 2016.
Kurt Zouma is a defender who plays for the France national team. He is currently on loan from Chelsea to Stoke City. Kurt signed for Chelsea in 2017, and also has an older brother, Lionel, who plays in the same position for Greek club Asteras Tripoli. Kurt’s parents are from the Central African Republic.
Xherdan Shaqiri is a midfielder who signed for Stoke City in 2015. He also plays for the Swiss national team and was born in Kosovo to Kosovo Albanian parents.
Ibrahim Afellay is a midfielder who plays for Stoke City and The Netherlands national team. Ibrahim is of Moroccan Riffian descent and signed from Barcelona to Stoke City in 2015
Ramadan Sobhi is a midfielder who plays for Stoke City and the Egypt natinoal team. He signed for Stoke City in 2015 from Eyptian club Al Ahly SC
Mame Biram Diouf
Mame Biram Diouf is a striker who plays for Stoke City and the Senegal national team. He played for Manchester United between 2009 and 2012, whilst going out on loan to a few various clubs. He signed for Stoke City from Hannover 96 in 2014.
Jordan Ayew is a striker who plays for Swansea City and the Ghana national team. Jordan was born in France and all male siblings and members of his extended family a professional footballers. His brother André plays for Premier League team, West Ham United. Jordan signed for Swansea City, from Aston Villa in 2017.
Mousa Dembélé is a midfielder who plays for Tottenham Hotspur and the Begium national team. He signed for Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 and has Malian heritage.
In an interview with ESPN, he responded to the terror attack in Brussels by saying:
“What I know is that these terrorists are enemies that cannot be allowed to win. They can’t claim to be Muslims and dishonour our religion.
“They’ve done immense harm to it — especially since people and even the media do not always present Islam in a good light.
“The jihadists are our enemies and they kill us as well. So don’t confuse us with them.”
Moussa Sissoko is a midfielder who plays for Tottenham Hotspur and France national team. His parents are originally from Mali and signed for Spurs in 2016 from Newcastle United
Younès Kaboul is a French defender who is currently playing for Watford and his national team, France. Younès is of Moroccan descent. He previously played for Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland in the Premier League before signing for Watford in 2016.
Noureddine “Nordin” Amrabat
Also known as Nordin Amrabat, he is a midfielder who plays for Watford and Morocco national team. He signed for Watford in 2016 and also has a younger brother, Sofyan who is a footballer, currently playing for Feyenoord.
West Bromwich Albion
Ahmed El-Sayed Hegazi
Also known as Ahmed Hegazi, he is a defender who currently on loan from Egyptian club Al Ahly and plays for West Bromwich Albion and the Egypt national team.
Nacer Chadli is a midfielder who currently plays for West Bromwich Albion and Belgium national team. Nacer is of Moroccan descent and played internationally for Morocco in 2010, but switched to Belgium the following year, since then earning over 30 caps and playing at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He also played for Tottenham Hotspur before singing for West Bromwich Albion in 2016.

West Ham United
Cheikhou Kouyaté is a midfielder who plays for West Ham United and is the current captain of the Senegal national team. He signed for West Ham United in 2014.
André Ayew is a striker who plays for West Ham United and plays for the Ghana national team. André was born in France and joined West Ham United in 2016 after playing for Swansea in the Premier League, where his brother Jordan currently plays.
Sofiane Feghouli is a midfielder who currently plays for West Ham United and the Algeria national team. It is rumoured that he is set to join Galatasary at the beginning of the 2017/18 season.
