1. Introduction

IslamHub ("we," "our," or "us") operates the IslamHub Chrome Extension (the "Extension") and the website islamhub.org (the "Website"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our Extension.

By installing and using the Extension, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

The IslamHub Chrome Extension collects only the following information, and stores it locally on your device:

• Geographic Coordinates (Latitude & Longitude) — obtained via the browser's Geolocation API. On first use the Extension may automatically request your location to display prayer times, and your browser will always ask for permission before location is shared. You can also trigger this manually with the "Detect my current location" button.
• City and Country Name — entered manually by the user in the Settings panel, used as an alternative to GPS to fetch local prayer times.
• Preferences — the selected prayer calculation method (e.g., ISNA, MWL, Karachi), Asr juristic school (Shafi or Hanafi), Quran translation language and edition, Arabic script style, clock format (12/24-hour), light/dark theme, and whether the New Tab override is enabled.
• Search Queries — text typed into the optional search box on the new tab is sent to Google to provide autocomplete suggestions and search results, exactly like the browser's address bar. These queries are never stored by IslamHub or sent to our servers.

The IslamHub Chrome Extension collects user location data solely for calculating local Islamic prayer times and the Hijri date. We do not create user accounts and do not collect any personally identifiable information.

3. How We Use Your Information

The collected information is used exclusively to:

• Fetch accurate daily prayer times from the Aladhan Prayer Times API.
• Display the current Hijri (Islamic) calendar date for your region.
• Convert a manually entered city name into coordinates, or convert GPS coordinates into a readable city/country name so you can confirm your location.
• Fetch the daily Quran verse (Ayah) in Arabic and your chosen translation.
• Provide search autocomplete suggestions when you type in the optional new-tab search box.
• Store your preferences locally on your device via chrome.storage.local so the Extension loads instantly on subsequent opens.

4. Data Storage and Security

All user data — including location, preferences, and cached prayer times — is stored exclusively on your local device using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API. This data never leaves your browser.

No personal data, location coordinates, or browsing history are ever sold, stored on external servers, or transferred to third parties.

When the Extension needs data (such as prayer times, geocoding, or a Quran verse), your browser sends the request directly to the relevant third-party service listed in Section 5. IslamHub does not operate an intermediary server and does not log, store, or intercept these requests.

5. Third-Party Services

The Extension communicates with the following third-party services solely for its core functionality. It has no content scripts and does not read or modify the pages you visit.

• Aladhan API (api.aladhan.com) — receives your city name or coordinates and calculation method to return prayer timings and the Hijri date.
• Al Quran Cloud API (api.alquran.cloud) — receives no personal data; returns the daily Ayah (Quran verse) in Arabic and your selected translation, and the list of available translations.
• Open-Meteo Geocoding API (geocoding-api.open-meteo.com) — receives a manually typed city name to convert it into coordinates.
• BigDataCloud API (api.bigdatacloud.net) — receives GPS coordinates to convert them into a readable city/country name so you can verify your location.
• Google Search Suggestions (suggestqueries.google.com) and Google Search (google.com) — receive text you type into the optional new-tab search box to return autocomplete suggestions and search results. This mirrors the browser's built-in search bar.
• Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) — used to load Arabic and interface fonts for display purposes only.

Each service receives only the minimal data required to return results (a location, a typed query, or nothing at all). IslamHub does not operate an intermediary server and does not log, store, or intercept these requests. Please refer to each provider's respective privacy policy for information on how they handle data.

6. Permissions Justification

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions, each strictly necessary for its core functionality:

7. Google Chrome Web Store User Data Policy Compliance

In compliance with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy and the Limited Use requirements:

• The Extension's use of data is limited to providing and improving the Extension's core user-facing features (prayer times, Hijri calendar, daily Ayah).
• Data is not transferred to third parties except as necessary to provide the user-facing features described above.
• Data is not used for advertising, marketing profiling, credit assessment, or any purpose unrelated to the Extension's single purpose.
• No data is sold to third parties, data brokers, or information resellers.
• User data is not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

All Extension data is stored locally on your device. You can delete all stored data at any time by:

• Uninstalling the Extension (all chrome.storage.local data is automatically removed).
• Clearing the Extension's data via Chrome's "Manage Extensions" settings.

9. Children's Privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. The Extension is designed for general audiences and does not require account creation or personal identification.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
