What Are the Five Daily Prayers?
Muslims perform five obligatory prayers (Salah) every day. Each prayer is linked to a specific time of day determined by the position of the sun:
- Fajr — the pre-dawn prayer, performed before sunrise. If you need to know the Fajr adhan time in my location, simply use the tool above to see the exact start time.
- Dhuhr — the midday prayer, performed after the sun passes its highest point. Also called Zuhr in some regions.
- Asr — the afternoon prayer, performed in the late afternoon when shadows lengthen.
- Maghrib — the sunset prayer, performed immediately after the sun sets below the horizon.
- Isha — the night prayer, performed after twilight disappears and full darkness sets in.
When Does Dhuhr Prayer Start?
Dhuhr prayer begins when the sun passes its highest point in the sky (solar noon) and starts declining toward the west. The exact time varies based on your geographic location and the time of year.
In most locations Dhuhr falls roughly between 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM, but it shifts throughout the year. Use IslamHub's Prayer Times tool to check the exact Dhuhr start time for your city today.
What Time Is Maghrib Prayer Today?
Maghrib prayer begins immediately after sunset. Because sunset time changes every day — shifting earlier in winter and later in summer — Maghrib prayer time also changes daily.
To find out what time Maghrib prayer is today in your location, enter your city above or allow location access. The tool calculates Maghrib and Isha times based on your exact coordinates and the current date.
What Time Is Isha Prayer in My Location?
Isha prayer starts after the red twilight (or white twilight, depending on the calculation method) disappears from the horizon. It is the last of the five daily Islamic prayers.
The gap between Maghrib and Isha varies by season and location — in summer at northern latitudes the gap can be very long, while near the equator it stays roughly the same year-round. Check Isha time for your location using the tool above.
How Are Prayer Times Calculated?
Prayer times are based on the position of the sun relative to your location. The key factors are:
- Latitude and longitude — your geographic coordinates determine when the sun rises, reaches its peak, and sets.
- Date — the sun's path changes throughout the year, so prayer times shift daily.
- Calculation method — different Islamic authorities use slightly different angle conventions for Fajr and Isha (e.g., Muslim World League, ISNA, Umm al-Qura, Egyptian General Authority).
- Timezone — the calculated UTC times are converted to your local timezone.
IslamHub uses established astronomical formulas and trusted calculation methods to provide accurate Namaz times for any location worldwide.
Why Prayer Times Change Every Day
The earth's axial tilt means the sun follows a different path across the sky each day. This directly affects sunrise, solar noon, and sunset — the anchors for Salah times.
Near the equator the daily shift is small (just a minute or two). At higher latitudes, especially in summer and winter, prayer times can shift by several minutes from one day to the next. That is why it is important to check an updated prayer times schedule regularly instead of relying on a fixed timetable.
Tips for Accurate Prayer Times
- Allow location access — GPS gives the tool your exact coordinates, which is more accurate than a city-level lookup.
- Check the calculation method — if your local mosque follows a specific authority (e.g., ISNA or Muslim World League), make sure the tool matches it.
- Account for elevation — if you live at a high altitude, sunset and sunrise may differ slightly from sea-level calculations.
- Refresh daily — since prayer times change every day, bookmark this page and check it each morning or set up notifications.
- Verify with your local mosque — online tools are very accurate, but your mosque may apply small adjustments for Iqamah times.
